About Dr. Courtney Cross

I'm a licensed psychologist (PsyD) in Florida. For more than eight years, including graduate training, I've worked with children, teens, and young adults on anxiety, depression, grief, relationships, and identity.

My background

I spent three years of graduate training in New Jersey schools and two years as a school psychologist in Collier County Public Schools. Since spring 2023, I've worked full time in virtual private practice. Much of my work has been with pre-teens, teens, and young adults facing anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem or self-confidence. That work showed me how these challenges play out at school, at home, and in friendships, and how much a steady, practical approach helps.

How I work

I take a person-centered approach. We start with what matters to you, figure out what isn't working, and build from there, and I'll meet you with compassion along the way. I draw on evidence-based approaches:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Mindfulness
  • Motivational interviewing
  • Positive psychology
  • Solution-focused therapy

I also teach meditation and relaxation skills you can learn, practice, and carry with you long after therapy ends. We set goals together, and you can change them at any point.

An affirming practice

My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming. I have extensive experience working with transgender and gender-expansive youth, including helping them work through the discrimination they face. Queer, trans, nonbinary, and questioning clients can expect to be understood and respected, whether identity is the reason you're here or simply part of your life.
